We immediately got a dozen requests from volunteers to stay with us which really surprised us, as winter was fast approaching. We decided to invite the first couple who contacted us, and everything for their 6 week journey to us was arranged. - And what can I say, Rosana and Joxerra not just made the biggest imaginable difference in our back garden, we very quickly bonded and fast became true friends! Cooking dinner in the evenings became a real joy as we cooked for each other sharing and swopping ideas and recipes. And also our evenings were well spent over many games and stories, and you can imagine that the children got a good share out of it. The weeks just literally flew by while my herb garden project became possible... |
I will quickly give you a little picture story about our next experiences to keep this entry short (it's hard!) and interesting. I already shared a little bit about our "summer volunteers"in our Gypsy-wagon story last month. But here is more:
|
As you can see so far, we had lot's of different projects for our Workawayers, and being a host as well as a volunteer includes so many different aspects, sharing work and life, and yes, share a lot of fun, too! |
We are in the middle of summer with this pictures with plentiful of work, but thanks to Workaway also plentiful of help: weeding, harvesting, renovating our gypsy caravan ... it's always good to have an extra hand(s) in times like this! |
And here we come to the end of our season as Workaway hosts. It was a very busy year with a very busy house and a lot of projects done. We want to take the opportunity to say a big "Thank You" to each one of our volunteers!!! The feedback we got most was: "We learned a lot from you." - I'm sure we learned as much from all of you as well! Thank you! You're all precious! |
It's a good thing to plan ahead very well. Think of what exactly needs to be done and communicate well beforehand to have the right person for the job on board with you. Have time and patience to show and explain the jobs very well, it's worth it! And last but not least: Open not just your home but also your heart and you'll have memories for life!
In case you consider beeing a "Workawayer": We'll be looking for new folks joining us again next year from mid March on.
